Shirley Jackson

Shirley Jackson (1916-1965) was an American author born in San Francisco. She is best known for her works in horror and psychological fiction, including the acclaimed short story "The Lottery" and the novel "We Have Always Lived in the Castle." Jackson's writing explores themes of social anxiety and the darker aspects of human nature. She passed away in North Bennington, Vermont.
