Epicurus

Epicurus (342-270 BCE) was a Greek philosopher born on the island of Samos and later based in Athens. He is best known for founding the school of philosophy known as Epicureanism, which emphasizes the pursuit of happiness through the cultivation of friendships and the study of nature. His works, though largely lost, have had a lasting influence on philosophical thought.
